I came in from work today and made a straight bee-line to play with the kittens. As I sat on the floor playing with them... I realized that this was a priceless moment that I wanted to capture and share with you. These 6-week old pictures come straight from the thick of the "ugly-fuzzies"! They were taken when the kittens were just getting into the worst of their "ugly-fuzzies". I do hope you can enjoy this beautiful stage of their development and see the beauty of the elegant creatures. Do you know what "the ugly-fuzzies" are? Have you ever seen pictures of lion or leopard cubs in the wild? You know what I mean: when they reach the gangly-youngster-adolescent stage and their fur gets all spiky-like. (Gosh, they are so adorable - but I digress.) Anyway, the Bengals have a similar trait where their pelt gets extra fuzzy, and their pattern almost gets a blurry look to it. We call this "the ugly-fuzzies". The kittens will often look at their "worst" during their ugly-fuzzies, and this will often last until about 2 to 4 weeks after they go to their new home. Then, almost overnight a gorgeous silky, shiny pelt emerges. There are those who hesitate to post pictures of their Bengal kittens during the "ugly-fuzzies" because they are concerned that they don't look that great, and for those who don't understand, it requires extra explaining, and then it sounds almost as the person is trying to make up excuses on a "sub-quality" kitten. |
